Summary0000053: Squid v2.6STABLE1 (20060705) cannot perform SQUID -K ROTATE when access logging is enabled, with (26) Text File Busy reported
DescriptionHi Paul,

When Squid is logging to access.log, and a SQUID -K ROTATE is issued, the access.log files are supposed to be archived to .0, .1 and so-forth.

However, the current build cannot rotate/archive the access log as it reports (26) Text File Busy (is -d 9 -X is set on command line to enable full debugging). Previous, un-opened access.x files are renamed, but the current access.log file is not.

Again, similar to bug 000052, this seems to be a problem with Squid correctly closing file handles/FDs.

Many thanks for your hard work,
Stephen

This is weird, squid tries to close the file before renaming it, but for some reason it doesn't close......

Hi Paul,

Same behaviour seen with latest Squid 2.6 Stable 3 build from your page.

Any fixes you can magic up will be muchly appreciated!

This one at least seems to be fixed in http://smedley.info/squid-2.6s4-os2-b1.zip

Hi Paul,

I tried the S4 download, but no change upon issuing SQUID -K RECONFIGURE

2006/09/24 15:04:09| xrename: Cannot rename /squid/var/logs/access.log to /squid
/var/logs/access.log.0: (26) Text file busy
2006/09/24 15:04:09| ipcCreate: socketpair: (38) Socket operation on non-socket

I'm interested in perhaps any differences in your SQUID.CONF file. Are you using the default one provided in the zip file? Can you send me the exact one you are using please?

I've tried omitting a drive letter (previously my log files where on a different disk) and also tried only enabling access_log (rather than all of the logs) - no difference.

Thanks,
Stephen

Please open a new bug if this is still present in 3.0.stable26
