Summary0000501: Squid 3.0 Stable 25 crashes under light load
DescriptionSquid starts and runs normally. SeaMonkey (2.5, configured for HTTP 1.1 with keepalive and pipelining, to forward all non-localhost requests to proxy) starts with six to eight tabs. Five to six tabs load, and Squid quietly exits. Nothing useful appears in cache.log, even with debug_options set to ALL,9.
Steps To ReproduceStart Squid.
Wait for proxy to initialize.
Start SeaMonkey; restore sessions with several tabs.
Additional InformationI can't get Squid to coredump. :-/

I've increased memory_pools_limit to 100 MB, though this seems to have no effect one way or the other. Shared memory is not yet fragmented (this all happens within minutes of booting, as well as much later on.

C:\MPTN\ETC\resolv2 is symlinked to J:\etc\resolv.conf, and Squid (installed to C:\Squid) is able to read the symlinked file properly (kudos!). I see the same crash, though, even when configuring nameservers in squid.conf.

Just in case there's anything of interest, I've attached squid.conf. I have not editing any other config files.

Please test with http://smedley.info/squid-3.0.stable25-20110928b.zip

Sorry, Paul; I missed the email notification of your last note.

I am happy to report, though, that after just installing squid-3.0.stable26-os2-20111220.zip, I no longer see the crashes from this bug (I would have seen that issue immediately). Let's close it.

Thanks for the workaround for the select() issues! I had actually rolled back to Steve Sharrad's build of 2.6 stable 14 for some proxy testing I was doing, and the performance difference between 2.6 and 3.0 is palpable.

Cheers!

Great to hear :) For some reason, selct() sometimes fails with libc, so I just sleep for 500ms or so then retry the select()

I did this for CUPS some time ago, and finally had the thought to try it with squid :)
